NDTV joins Direct TV, Sky platforms
In order to increase its presence in the international markets, English news channel NDTV 24x7 will be available on Sky platform in the UK and Direct TV, the largest direct-to-home (DTH) service provider in the US According Dr Prannoy Roy, Chairman, NDTV, "We're very pleased to partner with both Sky and Direct TV, the largest DTH players in the UK and US. There has been a constant demand for NDTV 24x7 from the many Indians living there, who in fact are the largest single group accessing our Web site, NDTV.com. We hope that 24x7 will be an important source of information for American and British viewers and fill a gap in these markets." The Sky platform reaches out to 7.8 million homes while the current reach of Direct TV is pegged at 15 million homes. In a statement, Aaron McNally, Vice-President, Direct TV International, said, "Direct TV is responding to the rapid growth of the South Asian community in the US by delivering a robust line-up of programming that is relevant to their culture. We are delighted to partner with NDTV to provide our South Asian customers with even more compelling and innovative programming." With these tie-ups, NDTV's global presence will now extend to all the key regions across the world - the Middle East, Europe, South Africa, the UK and the US. Shortly thereafter, NDTV plans on launching in Canada as well. After entertainment channels, news channels seem to be tapping the international audience. Recently, Channel 7 from the Jagran group too has evinced this interest.
